Animal Crate Pet
Has anyone ever taken a pet (dog) from the USA to Australia?
We will be moving from Alabama, USA to Perth, Australia and have two boxers to take with us. The importation process in Australia is very strict, requiring 30 days in quarantine and the animals must stay sealed in their crates throughout their entire travels. We are worried about the welfare of the animals for such a long trip and would like to speak with someone who has experienced a similar process. Any feedback would be great!
I have flown my pets from Australia to Papua New Guinea and two years later I flew them to the USA. No problems at all, and no quarantine periods. Both dogs and cat seemed to be well catered for at the transit airports and arrived clean and happy after the very long flights. I think that having two dogs traveling together is better for them, they may get support (woof woof) from each other somehow...
When after three years I moved back to Australia the pets could not come because of an extended quarantine period (like you said 30 days), need to check with http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs
I have heard of people doing it and they were happy to have their pet in quarantine but I did not want to do that to them. I left my pets with family in the USA...
One thing I would not recommend is using the pet-moving-services, I did that once and it meant an extra $1000 bill and no difference to the process and they still stuffed up with formalities. They were no help at all except for helping with a crate... something the vet can do too!
Good luck!
