My son is 3 weeks old. Is it too young for a baby carrier?
I venture out with him today for about an hour, but really do not want to take in the infant car seat. FYI ... I have a stroller frame for infant car seat but wait for the company to send me some missing. I hate having to sit aroound the house waiting to come. My son was 6 pounds and 8ozs least 1 week old, so I'm guessing that is about 8 pounds or very close since it is filling and has been eating well. My company is an Evenflo and can be used for babies who are at least 8 pounds. This is a company front that says that puts the child in it toward you until they have good neck control.
What kind of company do you have? Slings and wraps are well, even for premature babies, and companies like the Baby Bjorn is based on the size. I think the Baby Bjorn can be used in a baby of 8 pounds and up, but necessary to consult the instructions that came with your company to be sure. If you can not find the instructions, you should be able to find something online.
Wraparound Carriers - Preferred by Babies and Parents
Wraparound carriers for infants and toddlers are usually made of a fabric which is strong enough to hold a baby's weight but elastic enough to 'give' a little when pulled. Wraparound carriers also come in many sling styles which go over the shoulder. Some have a pouch which can cradle infants against the stomach area. This style is ideal for infants and smaller babies. There are other styles which are better used with older children or babies who are able to sit up on their own. Other wraparound carriers have a sewn in 'bottom' area which has a quilted cloth which helps keep baby comfortable.
Wraparound carriers are preferred not only by babies and children because they like to be held and this helps them feel more secure, but also by parents who then know their child is safe and close by in the wraparound carrier. Parents have peace of mind because they know where their child is at all times and there is no fear that someone could walk off with the child which unfortunately could possibly happen with a stroller.
